Within Goldenwind society there are two vocations that Breezes choose between when they take up task. Being of Sun ☼ or Moon ☾ does not mean that they can only operate during those hours. While some may choose to rise with their vocation, it is just as often that a Breeze of the Moon may rise with the sun or vice versa. Breezes typically regard themselves as "Of the Sun" or "Of the Moon" or in the rare case that they are under both: "Of the Eternal". There is also an even rarer vocation, Being of Sand ⧖ or more commonly regarded as "Being of the Sand" which happens when both vocation rites result in failure. These Breezes will take a name in the more favored of the two vocations during their rite challenge, however, they will still be known of the Sand and never ascend to named tasks.
These are the tasks of the day to day Breeze, not requiring special circumstance to join these ranks.
Stormbreaker ☼ | Shadowbringer ☾
"Glittering jewel of the desert"
These are the hunters of Goldenwind, providers for the faction. They are as strategic as the fox and as enduring as the hare. They know how to keep a level head and sure-footed mark, as hunting within the desert requires both patience and stealth. The game within their territory is keen and harsh, thus making a well operated hunt all the more valuable. Their specialized duties include tracking, leading hunting expeditions, and keeping an eye on overall herd health. The ecosystem surrounding the desert is fragile so great care must be taken to protect the few resources available. They are also the valleyfolk who are sent out routinely for the purging of Chimera Ridge due to their sure-footed nature.
Lightfarer ☼ | Darkrider ☾
"Bound to glittering rays"
The spies of Goldenwind, eyes of the desert. These valleyfolk are as swift as the drifting sands and silent as the passing wind. While they see all, they must remain unseen unless they desire to show themselves. They must know their environment and how to subtly blend into the background. Their specialized duties include gathering information both inside and outside of Goldenwind. They keep the Imbibitor up to date on the on-goings surrounding them and whether or not they stand to be benefited or threatened by it. Additionally, these individuals are responsible for taking care of and training the nightlights. These birds are often used alongside these valleyfolk as an extra pair of eyes and are valued companions. They have resistant feathers and silent speed, allowing them to reach heights few can touch. It is commonly known that even if all appears vacant these valleyfolk always have a pair of eyes nearby, watching and waiting.
Daysayer ☼ | Nightsayer ☾
"Enduring as the sand"
The healers of Goldenwind, these valleyfolk restore the very beings who make Goldenwind shine. They are as delicate as the flower and as precise as the scorpion's sting. Experts in various plants that scatter the desert and beyond. They are first to come to those in need of aid from sickness or injury. Taking charge of most emergency situations that include such, so much so that even the Stars themselves must abide by their words. Their specialized duties include healing the sick or injured, discovery of new flora and their uses as well as maintaining the delicate wild flowers within the territory.
Sunforger ☼ | Moondweller ☾
"Between the sun and the moon"
The keepers of Goldenwind's innermost secrets, these are the scribes that record all that ever was, and all that ever will be. Holding the knowledge of Goldenwind's lore and the history of the desert, they walk closely with Solarflares and Voidwalkers, often assisting when needed and keeping track of their connections. As they know of the tales of the dead and the curses that may be placed upon the land should certain precepts not be followed. Not only do they keep tales of the faction itself, they also document the vast landmarks within the sea of sand and are actively seeking to uncover more. Some would often refer to them as walking maps or guides of the territory.
Asteroid ☼ | Meteor ☾
"A star of calamity that strikes the ground"
These are the warriors of Goldenwind, the guardians of the faction. They are as brash as the ox and as unyielding as the crocodile. When a threat is faced either outside or within the sands they are the first to be called into action. Skilled in the art of combat, they excel in areas of both offense and defense. They are well versed in many environments as they train in the harshest of terrain, including those belonging to the supernatural. Those belonging to this task follow their vocation closely. As Asteroids usually only guard during the day, while the Meteors usually only guard during the night. This is to ensure the sands protectors remain well rested and at their peak during their guard. Their specialized duties include accompanying others on expeditions, patrolling the sands, keeping the peace in the rise of conflict, and enforcing Goldenwind’s code.
These are considered highly specialized ranks within the desert, branching from their roots to focus on an adjacent skillset.
Solarflare ☼ | Voidwalker ☾ - extends Sunforger ☼/Moondweller ☾
"In light of morning, in shadow of dusk"
Each a sacred title, only a scant few are able to hold such a title as it requires a deep connection to the sun or moon along with being a skilled Sunforger or Moondweller.
A Solarflare is responsible with connecting to the ash, possessing the ability to communicate with the deceased through the souls of the living. By using crystal reflectors located within the maze of sun stars, the souls of the deceased who desire to speak or are called upon may respond back through the crystal reflection. There is a risk that the souls of the dead may linger in one's mind and whisper, thus it is imperative that only a Solarflare may enter the maze of sun stars.
A Voidwalker does something similar by traversing to the Silence, this is done by submerging in the moonpool hidden within the caverns. A Voidwalker is able to walk in the land of the dead and search for the soul they desire. However, there is a risk of being trapped within the Silence or becoming afflicted with its poison, as such, the location of the cavern is passed down from one Voidwalker to another.
Solarflares/Voidwalkers is a title that can can only be held by those belonging to the Sunforger/Moondweller task. A Sunforger/Moondweller must hold the rank of Twilight in order to transfer to this task. Upon transfer they must start again from the rank of Starlight.
Starweaver ◎ - extends Daysayer ☼/Nightsayer ☾
"All return to the grand cosmos"
Unlike most tasks which hold two titles for their chosen vocation, the task of Starweaver is of the Eternal. Due to their close connection to the Silence, Starweavers are responsible for tending to the deceased. Daysayers and Nightsayers must take on considerable training in order to learn the art of Starweaving. They lead rituals to honour the deceased and hold celebrations on full moons, often working together with Sunforgers and Moondwellers, they tell the story of the fallen and honour their memory. Since they walk along the path of the Silence, they are held with high respect among both the living and deceased. Holding a special ability to see the aura of a spirit, they can sense when the Silence is off-balanced and if the spirits are at peace or unrest. They are the only beings allowed within the Gates of Eternity and Aureus after dark and are commonly referred to as the speakers of the dead, spending more time with them than those of the living.
Starweaver is a title that can only be held by those belonging to the Daysayer/Nightsayer task. A Daysayer/Nightsayer must hold the rank of Twilight in order to transfer to this task. Upon transfer they must start again from the rank of Starlight.
Annihilator ◎ | Imbibitor ◎ | Charioteer ◎ | Arbiter ◎ | Centurion ◎
"Your radiance resembles the setting sun's might"
Each of the general tasks has a position of high standing, held for one that will represent their respective task and rely all the current ongoings within that task to the Lights. Referred to as the High Cloud Quintet, they are responsible for keeping the task they uphold in line and ensure that all the needs of their tasks are met. They are the ones who are first to be chosen to represent their task when dire situations arise and are usually the ones sent to uphold their task duties when traversing these situations both inside and outside of the sands.
All High Cloud members are given a distinctive new name to represent their position as head of their task and place among the Eternal:
Annihilator ◎: Stormbreaker ☼ | Shadowbringer ☾
Imbibitor ◎: Lightfarer ☼ | Darkrider ☾
Charioteer ◎: Daysayer ☼ | Nightsayer ☾
Arbiter ◎: Sunforger ☼ | Moondweller ☾
Centurion ◎: Asteroid ☼ | Meteor ☾
Similar to the Starweaver, all the members of the High Cloud are of the Eternal. However, in order to take on the line of succession in this high ranking task the ones chosen must complete the Rite of the Eternal. Only those belonging to the rank of Radiant in their respective tasks may be chosen for such a position. It is one that is held in high esteem and is hand selected solely by the Stars to those they deem worthy and fit.
Dawnlight ☼ | Dusklight ☾
"From dusk til dawn"
The light of the desert, second only to the Stars and often referred to as the Lights. They help enforce the laws of Goldenwind and make sure all is operating smoothly under the Stars' order. In rare cases, should both Stars be absent, they take charge as acting Stars. They provide council for the leaders of Goldenwind and act as the head of all tasks within the desert, ensuring that the Stars do not stray.
The order of succession for Dawnlight and Dusklight is a rigorous one as the new Dawnlight or Dusklight is apprenticed to the former, spending years in the desert to train in all of the desert's trades.
Morningstar ☼ | Eveningstar ☾
"As day turns to night"
The Sun and Moon of the desert, they are holders of both divine right and authority. Goldenwind does not exist without them, nor do the Stars exist without Goldenwind. They stem from a long chain of rulers starting with the blood of the very first Valleyfolk to live in the desert, it is rumoured that they themselves are descendants of Phoenix. When they are together, they are referred to as "The Stars" and when apart they are referred to as "The Sun" and "The Moon" respectively.
Both hold a deep connection to the lands of the living and the dead, forever chained to the desert. The Stars is loosely considered a task in which the trade is typically handed down by birthright, however it is not uncommon for a Breeze outside of the Stars' immediate family to be appointed as a successor instead, requiring a lengthy apprenticeship before stepping up to the role.
